Notes from Professor Cox…

Ah, just as I thought! Our three tiny bones of the inner ear are evolutionary remnants of our fishy ancestor’s gills. And while we’re the brainiest vertibrates (well we would say that wouldn’t we) the humble  octopus is top of the invertibrates for brain cells. What have we in common with this tentaclely mollusc? Interestingly it’s our eyes! Yes, the fact we both have camera eyes that have evolved to enable us to pick up all the detail from the reflected light around us means we need super intelligent brains to process it all. Put simply: smart eyes equals smart brain! Here’s looking at you Octy.
